Buckie arrived at his foster home (Aberdeen) in September and has taken no time at all to settle in. He is a handsome and loveable boy, eager to please, who loves a walk just as much as a good long afternoon snooze!
Buckie has adjusted well to living in a home. His toilet training went smoothly, and he manages through the night without a toilet break. He sleeps in his bed with extra blankets and has been kept from the sofa (although he's interested in it!). He is unbothered by vacuum cleaners, hair dryers, the doorbell etc. He is such an affectionate boy who loves humans and getting pets, he will lean into you if you're good at it! He likes to be near you, which means sometimes getting in the way around the house, his particular favourite move is stopping lengthways across doorways! When his foster parent is busy in the kitchen he likes to lie down on a rug nearby to 'supervise'. His foster parents are working on leaving him alone in the house for short periods, so far he has shown he can settle after a few minutes and hasn't barked or displayed any destructive behaviours.
Buckie is a quick learner and beginning to respond to his name and various commands. He enjoys playing treat-finding games and pouncing on his toy shark, but he is still learning how to do a proper zoomie! He's a passionate foodie and is already getting good at letting you know it's close to dinner time! He has shown no signs of resource guarding or food aggression.
He tends to snooze during the day, but he's always game for a walk. Buckie is walked on his lead with a harness and he walks well. He can be reactive to other breeds when on walks. He doesn't mind too much if the dog is on the other side of the street or if we are following them on the path, but gets upset if the other dog approaches him or barks at him. He's been working on this with his foster parents since day one and he seems to be improving! For this reason, he wears a muzzle when out in public as a precaution. It's his least favourite part of his outfit but he tolerates it and will leave it alone until you're back through the front door where he will nudge you to let you know it's time to take it off! Early indications suggest he may get along with other sighthounds.
Other important information:
He has been introduced to children aged 2 and 4 years old inside his house, he was pleased to see them, gave them lots of kisses but calmed quickly.
He isn't interested in birds. He is unbothered by traffic, runners and cyclists.
He is fine in the car, he just needs some help to get in and out of the boot, he enjoys looking out the window and will lie down whilst on longer drives.
He would take well to a routine.
Can go up and down stairs and manages well on hard floors.
Buckie comes with 5 weeks free pet insurance. He is microchipped, vaccinated and neutered.
