When Milly first joined us we quickly realised she liked toys especially squeaky ones.

Yesterday, Bill remembered that we had a collection of old toys from over the years tucked away in a couple of drawers and he thought Milly might like one or two of them. She liked them all!!

I think you need to count those Milly 😁 I remember a post a few years ago that turned into a wee competition about how many toys each groo had. You might have a record there 😅
I am ashamed to admit there are 21 toys in this collection. In our defence, we are at dogs 10 and 11 over a long period of time. Having said that, we probably have had 3 times as many toys over the years. This is just what’s left!!
If I remember I'll take a few along to the next walk, as my two don't bother with toys at all! I think Niamh has tossed a toy once only in her very nearly fourteen years, and Darcie hasn't worked out what to do with them! Not very bright is my Darcie 😘 My old boy Kyle only liked on toy, which I had to replaced whenever he desqueeked and destuffed, it was a big yellow squeaky banana, after the first one died I had to search the Internet to source for him, used to buy them in bulk🤣
Yes some groos never see the point of toys. The most amusing for us is the ex-racers who discover the concept of playing with items soon after arriving into foster but take a while to distinguish between what we humans consider a dog toy and what they perceive as something fun to play with. As well as the usual tea towels, shoes, underwear (especially the yet to be laundered variety!!), we have had fosters take off with screwdrivers, bread knives, and hats of all shapes and sizes!
@georgina.cairns.uk Our Chrissy didn’t have the excuse of being an ex racer but she was definitely all woman. Her passion was shoes. She “killed” my favourite pair of killer heel boots and several individual shoes. Her specialty was heels, she just couldn’t say no!! Most have liked “laundry” and Myra and Milly have followed in the family tradition. A few years back, I answered the door leaving the laundry I was sorting on the bed. As I was chatting, Toby walked out the door with Bill’s underpants draped round his neck as if it was his right to wear them.
Food theft is usually the next level when they get really confident and counter tops are just the perfect level for a hound. I have lost sandwiches, entire cakes and Myra tried to make off with a whole chicken. Nothing is sacred. Saffy liked a drop of wine and Shadow was partial to Baileys. Milly tried some Ribena and rather liked it. 😔😔
haha!
Our latest foster boy, Spider is discovering toys BIG time!. He especially loves soft squishy ones he can carry around and then settle down to take apart. He is very effective at dismembering, making holes and then pulling out the stuffing. Any recommendations for something that might defeat him very welcome indeed!
The only things I could recommend are the “tuffie” type toys that are extra strong. Saw some in Pets at Home yesterday. Or the stuffing free toys that I have seen in garden centres. Thankfully, Milly’s sole aim is to kill the squeaker and doesn’t progress to the dismembering. She still plays with them when they are silent but prefers the ones that make a noise.
@greyhoundgaynor thx for the reply. I agree the 'tuffie' ones are the best option. just haven't found one that can defeat him yet - lol. And he has no interest in the 'crazy critter' stuffing free types which so many groos do love to toss, shake and pounce on!
And here is his favourite position for the systematic destruction of all things stuffed and preferably squeaky. Best time so far from being given new 'hard wearing' toy to ruin is 7 minutes :) :
:)
The only toys that will stand up to a determined dismemberer are the kong toys, but according to my previous toy aficionado's (current groo's don't 'do' toys 🙄) they have no stuffing, so are therefore boring!😂
quite!
