Romeo

Sadly, it is with great regret that Colin, Moira & family lost their beloved boy Romeo in December. Romeo suffered a massive stroke and had to be put to sleep. Colin was with him at the end and we are devastated for you all.

Romeo was 9yrs old when he came from Rome to Methlick, he would have been shipped over there from Ireland at a young age and retired from racing there probably about 3-4yrs old. He spent the next 5yrs of his constrained and sheltered life in a concrete square muzzled 24hrs a day. He wouldn’t have been walked in this time.

When Romeo and Ruanda arrived at the kennels they were a bit shell-shocked to say the least. Ruanda soon came round and has turned into a little Madam.

But, our Romeo was still very shy and very wary. The big bad world was a scary place for him. I thought at his age and because of his shyness he would be difficult to find a home for. But, as usual, when you least expect it Colin and Moira came along. They didn’t bat an eyelid at his age all they cared about was giving this sorry wee soul some good, happy times in a home where he was spoiled rotten and understood.

Romeo must have thought he was in heaven, sweet & sour chicken on a Friday night (when Moira wasn’t there to give Colin a row) was just one of his many highlights. Colin & Moira quickly gained Romeo’s trust and he began to relax and actually, for the first time, enjoy life to the full. He had nearly one whole year of being treated like a king and then sadly he departed.

I would like to take this opportunity to say a heartfelt thanks to Colin and Moira for giving Romeo the love, peace and happiness he had never known. For that he will love you forever.

We will never forget you Romeo.
