Mollie 2002-2007

I am writing this on behalf of Eileen, to pay a tribute to Mollie.

Mollie was our foster dog..infact our second.  She came into our lives in May 2006 along with her litter sister Lark.  I’ve never seen two dogs that were the complete opposite.
Lark had boundless energy and confidence and would run up to meet us..Mollie took herself into the furthest corner of the room, curled into the tightest ball possible and shook.  If you approached her the shaking got worse and if you touched her she hid her head as if to say ‘I can’t see you……you can’t see me and I won’t get hurt.’

Little by little she gained her confidence in us but the shaking never seemed to go away,
if a stranger came into the room she was back in the corner trembling. There came a time when I had to go into hospital and it was from my bed there that I was told that there maybe a suitable home for her..so from that same bed, I talked to the lady and agreed that yes I would let Mollie go home with her.

This is where Mollie found her forever home.

The lovely lady, Eileen, kept us informed about Mollies progress and yes it was painfully slow, however Eileen asked us if we would look after Mollie when she was away for the weekend..of course we agreed and a little while later on in walked Mollie still trembling but I could see instantly that she had more confidence in herself.  She stayed with us a week and it was there that she rekindled her friendship with my grey Matt..and relaxed.

I didn’t stop there, whenever Eileen had a holiday we had Mollie and her progress continued and I would like to believe that she enjoyed it with us..she greeted us in the morning with a wagging tail, had fun on her walks and put up with endless hugs and kisses.

I was only last week that Mollie came to stay…she jumped out of the car but I noticed she had a limp..Eileen had given me medication for the limp but by the Monday it was getting really bad.  So I took her to my vets who gave her more painkillers and with that she picked up, although still limping and enjoyed lying by the fire, sleeping on our bed and getting smothered in kisses.  We had a whippet pup staying with us at that time and what was wonderful to watch was the girls ganging up on the boys, to be honest it was girl power.  It was Penny (the whippet) who taught Mollie naughty things..like how to raid the bin…I was gobsmacked when I saw it because Mollie just didn’t do these things but I was so happy to see it,.to see that she had a very cheeky personality and it was just starting to come out.  That was a very happy week for us and Im glad we had it with her.

When Eileen came back for her, I mentioned the limp and she decided to take her back to her vet to see if anything else could be done.Mollies own vet decided to give her a small operation to see what was causing her limp as xrays had shown nothing and it was there that a large aggressive tumour was found..Eileen had a very difficult decision to make and she selflessly let her cross over to Rainbow Bridge.

Mollie it was a honour knowing you and having you as part of our extended family, your courage showed us all. Eileen, thank you for giving this little girl a wonderful time, I know it was short but in those precious months you could see how strong she was getting, how confident she was and I know because the Seaton Walkers saw it too.

We’ll miss you little one, everyone who knew you..go on have a free run on us.
