Ivan

I had to say goodbye to my best friend yesterday, Ivan. A better friend and companion than any man could wish for. Keeper of my secrets, always there to greet me with a smile and wag of his tail, whatever time I got home. A collie x Greyhound who had a poor start in life in a local rescue centre as a puppy, he found a loving home and many years of happiness.

So many memories of a beautiful dog, who when my son was younger and was afraid of the dark, would lie on his bedroom floor until my son fell asleep, before quietly coming back downstairs to take up his more favoured (and comfortable) position on the couch! Who always wanted to be with me even if it was just down to the shop and back. Who was always up for a walk (until he saw it was raining)! Who never complained but was always cheerful.

Such a decision to cut short your life and let you leave me, and was the hardest I thing I have ever had to do. But I know in my heart it was the right thing. I am just so sorry I could do no more for you.

I cant begin to express how much I will miss him, but I can say all the hurt I feel now is worth it for having had the honour of knowing such an incredible hound.
