Lilly was an 8yr old stunning greyhound who had an extremely bad, neglected history when she came to us. She had been locked in a shed, with only grass to lie on and in complete darkness for 9mths. When she came to her foster home she was crippled with arthritis but seemed to respond to treatment. Julie and her family from Kemnay had been waiting on a catsafe dog to get on with Cap the Collie and her cat. I wasn't hopeful for Lilly finding a home quickly as a lot of people will not consider an older dog. But, as soon as I mentioned her to Julie she immediately said, without hesitation, that she wanted to give her a good home regardless of her age or condition. Lilly also had to have several mammary lumps removed before she went to her home. Julie and her family fell in love with Lilly at first sight and so did Cap the collie. Everyone was smitten and Lilly settled in straight away as if she had been there her whole life. Her and Cap loved their walks with the cat following close behind. She had a wonderful time and kept the family on their toes as she was your typical, terrible, greyhound thief. But, sadly Lilly's neglected background caught up with her and she developed a terrible hip problem which could only be treated by a major operation, which had no guarantee of success. Even if the operation had worked it would have been a long, painful haul back to recovery for Lilly. Julie and her family took the kindest and most selfless decision to end Lilly's suffering before it started. They were very brave in doing this and felt she had already suffered enough. Everyone at GAGAH would like to take this opportunity to thank Julie and all her family for giving Lilly a taste of heaven before she left us. We will be forever grateful to you for taking Lilly on despite her age and health problems because you just wanted the chance to spoil a dog that so desperately needed to be spoiled. Please take consolation in knowing that Lilly will to be forever grateful to you all for giving her that chance of happiness and a reason for her to smile each day |
