Day 1

Little Jasmine arrived yesterday. She is a 10yr old bitch who has been used for breeding long after she should have been. She has been been in kennels  with one meal a day, and no walks or stimulation.

Jasmin

At the moment she is a pathetic little soul. Her backend is a bit wobbly and her muscle tone is quite poor. She was jumping with fleas, her eyes are covered in cataracts but she still has vision, and her mouth, well it is absolutely shameful, all her canines are snapped and rotten, and her back teeth, beggars belief, this wee soul must be in some amount of pain. She's had metacalm today and she is booked in first thing tomorrow for a major dental. She will be spayed within the next couple of weeks either here or in her permanent ‘foster’ home (if we are lucky). We need to get her teeth sorted first and allow her to get over this first.

She seems a bit depressed but hopefully after her dental, she will perk up a bit. She has had a few accidents (wee’s only) in her kennel which could be either, a learned habit (no choice but to do it in her kennel), an infection or just a touch of incontinence

Jasmine is already wagging her tail a wee bit when you first go into the kennel to take her out, but she isn’t showing much enthusiasm at all at the moment for being outside.

Day 2

Just to give you an update on wee Jasmine. She had to get 17 teeth removed yesterday, the vet said they were in a horrendous condition and her mouth was so badly infected with abscesses in the roots she must have been in excruciating pain. It also turns out her eye condition is not cataracts but instead the lenses are covered in thick scar tissue from numerous, untreated eye ulcers, and she has a couple of active ulcers still going on (which she now has drops for), again another painful thing for her to endure.

There is nothing they can do about the scar tissue, so Jasmine's vision is quite bad and they think all she is capable of seeing is shadows. She has arthritis in her hip joints which explains how she walks. The fleas have now gone, I personally must have brushed and picked off at least 30 live ones and that was after she had already been bathed by Lex (who looked after her overnight for us) and he had removed a lot of them as well.

But, today she ate all her breakfast and went for a wee trot down the pen; she is such a sweet little thing and when she goes back to her kennel she jumps in her bed, snuggles into her big fluffy quilt and if you stroke her head she falls fast asleep in seconds. I imagine even though she will still be in some discomfort with her mouth and eyes, she must be feeling a lot less pain.

Day 5

Jasmine with Pierrot

As you can see Jasmine has already settled really well in her new Permanent Foster home which she toddled off to quite happily yesterday.

Annella came up with her Gang (Pierrot, Cassie & Bundle) and they all met and got on great. When Pierrot had a run about the Pen, Jasmine just came to life and trotted off after him with a wee twinkle in her eye (the first time I'd seen this), it was very touching and lovely to see her suddenly enthusiastic. Bundle (the fearless, warrior of a terrier) let Jasmine know her bottom was quite clean and didn't need a freshen up, - Jasmine took the hint and they were great after that. Cassie, well Cassie loves everybody and dog she meets and was delighted to have another member of the mischievous pack.

Annella phoned today to say they were all doing great and it's like Jasmine has always been there, she's enjoying her walks and runs round the paddock and sleeping very well in between. What a lovely way for this girl to enjoy the rest of her life, which up to now, has been so isolated, miserable and downright painful.

Jasmine Appeal Fund

Because of Jasmine’s obvious health issues and her age, we are launching a ‘Jasmine Appeal Fund’, to raise money so that we can pay all her vet bills for the rest of her days. We intend to get insurance for her but there will be ‘insurance excess’, food, and small treatments she may need throughout the rest of her life. We hope that whoever is able to give Jasmine a quiet, easy, loving home will be able to do so without any expense.

LOTS OF DONATIONS (INCLUDING A HUGE ONE) - FUND STANDS AT £675

So if would like to help with the ‘Jasmine Appeal' you can:

Pay with Paypal (you don't need to be a member but it is a safe way to pay by credit card). See our Sponsor/ Donate page.

Bank transfer - Account details on Sponsor/ Donate page.

E-mail Diane and she will give you an address which you can send a cheque.

Please mark the paypal payment or cheque with 'Jasmine' so we know it is for her.
